But within its depths lurks a darkness, a dangerous lure that promises wealth at the cost of morals. They say those who fall in its current are forever lost by the stream's power, their lives forever transformed into a bitter melody.
A River of Syrup
On January 15th, 1919, Boston experienced a disaster unlike any other. A massive tank filled with syrup burst open in the city's North End, unleashing a wave of sticky sweetness that crashed through the streets like a tsunami. The flood, soaring to 25 feet in some areas, was horrifying. Buildings were flattened under the weight of the treacherous goo.
The aftermath was grim. Twenty-one people lost their lives, and many more suffered injuries. The flood also caused a great deal of destruction to property, leaving a trail of sticky residue in its wake.
The City of Boston's Sticky Nightmare
